![]() CrossIron Mills Shopping Centre:
CrossIron Mills is a proposed enclosed shopping centre development located just outside the northern city limits of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and immediately east of the hamlet of Balzac in the Municipal District of Rocky View (view on google maps). This mega mall is a unique landmark development 2 ½ km north of the future Stoney Trail/Deerfoot Trail interchange adjacent to Hwy #2, the busiest transportation corridor in the Province of Alberta. CrossIron Mills is being developed by Ivanhoe Cambridge, a major Canadian real estate company. Upon completion in August 2009, the mall will be one of Western Canada's largest shopping centres containing approximately 109,440 m² (1,178,002.4 sq ft) of retail and entertainment space. Once completed, the project will be home to over a dozen anchor tenants as well as approximately 175 specialty stores and will offer a unique mix of value retail and contemporary entertainment set in an ambience of distinctive design and architecture. It is the first phase of a major 674-acre (2.7 km2) development that will ultimately include an equine racetrack facility and casino (operated by the United Horsemen of Alberta) as well as hotel, restaurant, and additional retail uses. The Primary Trade Area includes Calgary, the fifth largest urban market in Canada with a population of over 1.1 million people and is considered to be Canada’s fastest growing major City. With the total Trade Area of 1.5 million people reaching West to Banff, North to Red Deer, Southeast to Medicine Hat and South to Lethbridge, the centre is being developed in Canada’s most affluent and well-educated major market boasting the highest Retail Sales Per Capita. A structural link between the CrossIron Mills retail centre will provide convenient access to a state-of-the-art racing entertainment centre, featuring two racetracks, the Canadian Equine Centre of Innovation (operating as a satellite campus of Olds College), and a luxurious five-star hotel. This unique super-regional development will become a landmark on the western Canadian landscape, creating a unique entertainment and tourist destination for national and international visitors alike.
