Calgary: Southeast
Several communities also stretch into the downtown core, such as up-and-coming Inglewood. Inglewood not only holds the title of the oldest area of the city, it is also the location of the Inglewood Bird Sanctuary, which is located on the banks of the Bow River, just near the Calgary Zoo. The Inglewood district is home to many specialty boutiques, furniture stores, eateries like famous Spolumbo’s, the Italian Deli-style restaurant, Rouge, Capo and Nectar Desserts, to name but a few. East of Inglewood, one finds the city's most ethnically diverse districts and traditionally the most economical neighbourhoods, such as Forest Lawn, Radisson Heights and Southview. Good shopping is found at Southcentre and Willowpark Shopping centres and the Southeast also features the Deerfoot Meadows Shopping Plaza, which houses major stores including the City’s Ikea, Costco, The Brick Furniture, EQ3 Furniture, Pier 1 Imports, Halstead Sofa, Linens N Things and Chikko Skateboards and Snowboards. Near the city's centre on the Southeast side of the City, are located the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Grounds and Pengrowth Saddledome. The Saddledome is home to the famous Calgary Flames (National Hockey League), the Hitmen (Western Hockey League), and the Roughnecks (National Lacrosse League). Many big name concerts are hosted throughout the year at the Saddledome and talent on the roster has included Lenny Kravitz, Prince, Celine Dion, Janet Jackson, U2 and the Tragically Hip, among others. Below are Southeast communities that currently have new building and development opportunities:
